"Muscatine students were really eager to continue reading about Jerry Flack [the main character in Dork in Disguise] after Carol visited schools and told them about him. Students could relate to sometimes being a dork and doing dorky things. They are eager to read Dork On the Run and A Midsummer Night's Dork to find out more about Jerry. The students really enjoyed hearing about how Carol got the ideas for her books and her titles have been in demand since. We were very pleased with how well she was received. One fourth grader has even chosen to be Carol in an Extended Learning assignment on famous Iowans."

"Carol Gorman did a marvelous job of speaking to over 600 4th-graders at our Young Writer's Conference! Her format was well-organized and meaningful to 4th-graders. She shared her secrets of getting ideas for writing from personal experience, modeled hooking readers as a writer, and then encouraged students to write hooks of their own. The students left the event motivated to read and write, and teachers made these comments on their evaluations:
  • 'Carol was personable and related well to the students.'

  • 'Excellent day!!! Very interesting...she explained writing in a way that 4th graders could understand.'

  • 'She modeled well and asked students to apply what they had learned.'

  • 'SUPER organization and format today!'

We look forward to future writing workshops and opportunities to work with Carol Gorman."

"Carol Gorman was an excellent presenter at our school! The students were very interested in her stories and had many questions for her. Her writer's workshop was wonderful and the students really enjoyed the one-on-one time that she gave them. Her visit has generated a lot of interest in writing and reading! We are so fortunate to have had Carol visit our school! "-- Brenda Young, Library Media Specialist, Rosehill Elementary School, Omaha, Nebraska.
